Bouras \u2013 Director of the General Directorate for Maritime Affairs and Energy: The shipbuilding industry is a strategic capability"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The strategic importance of the shipbuilding industry, the need to strengthen Greek defence production and the new opportunities created by European programmes for Greek industry were highlighted by Ioannis Bouras \u2013 Major General \/ Director-General of the General Directorate for Defence Equipment and Investments (GDEI), at the BLUE STRATEGY SUMMIT 2026 conference, organised by the Hellenic Shipbuilders\u2019 Association at the InterContinental Athens on Monday 25 May under the auspices of the Presidency of the Republic, with the support of the Ministries of National Defence, Environment and Energy, Development, Labour and Social Security, Infrastructure and Transport, and Shipping and Island Policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Bouras emphasised the need to formulate a comprehensive national maritime strategy, stressing that it should link \u00abindustry, defence and security, energy and industrial production\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"631\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hsas.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/bluesummit_mpoyras2-1024x631.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-463\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hsas.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/bluesummit_mpoyras2-1024x631.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.hsas.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/bluesummit_mpoyras2-300x185.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hsas.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/bluesummit_mpoyras2-768x474.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.hsas.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/bluesummit_mpoyras2-1536x947.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.hsas.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/bluesummit_mpoyras2.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;As he stated, \u00abthe shipbuilding industry is a strategic capability\u00bb, whilst the repair of merchant and naval vessels is directly linked to national sovereignty and economic resilience.
